In the beginning of 1997 I was given a set of Encaustic Art Equipment by my uncle.  I was not an Art student of any kind, I tried diffent Art Classes at school but could not draw or even paint with a paintbrush.  I had always been interested in art and so decided that I would try and learn how to paint using Encaustic Art. The fact that I had to paint using a travel iron, a type of soldering iron and beeswax intrigued me.  I could not draw or sketch but I found this form of art enjoyable and with a lot of hard work I started to paint.

In the Begining

Over the next few months I taught myself the techniques, using a guide book and a video prepared by Michael Bossom of Wales. There were no Encaustic Artists in South Africa that I knew of who could be called upon to assist me.
